Who should attend
This course is intended for anyone who configures or manages EMC Storage Arrays with open system hosts through a SAN.
Prerequisites
To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student must have a suitable knowledgebase/skill set. The student must have an understanding of:
- Basic UNIX administration skills on LVM implementations, software, and driver installation
- Basic Windows administration skills on LVM implementations, software, and driver installations
- Familiarity with B-Series, M-Series, and MDS-Series switches, CLI and management tools
- EMC storage array administration through Solutions Enabler, Navisphere Manager, and NaviCLI
- Familiarity with multipathing software and concepts A list of specific prerequisite courses can be found in EMC Education Services Learning Management System.
Course Objectives
This course focuses on SAN implementation activities including SAN, switch, host, and
storage considerations. The different UNIX (AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, and Linux) and Windows
hosts are configured to use storage through a SAN. SAN switches are administered
through their CLI and GUI management tools to enable secure communication between
the hosts and storage. EMC CLARiiON and Symmetrix storage arrays are administered
through Solutions Enabler, Navisphere Manager, and NaviCLI to meet the host's needs.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Describe, qualify, and prepare a SAN
- Configure all the SAN components
- Configure a host’s connections to the SAN
- Configure a SAN Switch and perform management operations
- Configure a CLARiiON storage array and perform management operations
- Configure a Symmetrix storage array and perform management operations
- Perform advanced host operations such as multipathing with PowerPath, volume management, and file systems
- Provide an overview of post-implementation tasks such as documentation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
